The former Carmelite Church in the city centre will become the new home of the department of economics of the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt. The ground-breaking ceremony took place in May 2017. In addition to a comprehensive refurbishment, several new university buildings will be constructed as well. Chief among is the five-storey structure “Tower of Knowledge” which will house the department’s large lecture halls.

In order to create a modern and functional learning environment, considerable space will be dedicated to study and meeting rooms for informal exchange between students as well as faculty.  The baroque nave will house both the departments’ as well as the city’s public library, a unique project in Austria. The surrounding green spaces of the historic Carmelite Church will remain untouched and serve as recreational areas for students and employees. Construction works are scheduled to be finished in spring 2019, the new location will therefore be opened to approx. 1,400 students in the fall of the same year.
